The SANDAG Criminal Justice & Public Safety Division is an essential source of information for local communities and policymakers on regional issues regarding public safety and public health, crime data, and crime-reduction strategies. Our team is made up of dedicated experts who make sure databases are continually updated and who participate as members of several local criminal justice-related committees, councils, and task forces to report on crime-related issues.
Each year, SANDAG compiles and analyzes regional crime data using FBI Index crime information provided by local law enforcement agencies, as well as crime data obtained from the Automated Regional Justice Information System (ARJIS).
The FBI Index includes four violent offenses (willful homicide, forcible rape, robbery, and aggravated assault) and three types of property crime (burglary, larceny theft, and motor vehicle theft).
An annual report on Crime in the San Diego Region is published in April. Other crime information is also compiled, analyzed, and published throughout the year.
