Mobility Hubs and Parking Management

Mobility Hub Planning

Mobility Hubs are locations where people can connect to many types of transportation such as public transit, bike lanes, and shuttles. Investments in mobility hubs expand travel options, enhance multimodal connectivity, and encourage transit-oriented development. SANDAG is currently working to transform the San Ysidro Transit Center into the future San Ysidro Mobility Hub.

Mobility Hub Resources

  • The Mobility Hub Features Catalog describes the kinds of services, amenities, and technologies that make up a mobility hub. These include waiting areas enhanced with WiFi and real-time travel information, safe bikeways and bike parking, dedicated bus lanes and smart intersection improvements, access to rideshare and microtransit services, smart parking technology, retail services, and more.
  • The Implementation Considerations memo recommends strategies to facilitate mobility hubs including planning and policies, allocating space for hub features, data sharing, and public-private partnerships.
  • An Equity Considerations memo summarizes some benefits, challenges, and best practices associated with the equitable implementation of mobility hubs so that everyone benefits.

Parking and Curb Management

Parking often influences how people choose to move around our region. An oversupply of free or underpriced parking can hinder smart growth and increase housing prices and traffic, but it's still important to provide an adequate supply of parking.

The Regional Parking Management Toolbox aims to help our region's cities and the county manage parking so that it benefits the economy and the overall transportation system. The toolbox includes:

  • A menu of parking strategies and technologies
  • Identification of specific strategies and technologies for different community settings and uses
  • Financial and staffing resources needed to manage parking effectively
  • Best practices for public outreach, education, and marketing
  • Case studies and lessons learned
