The public strongly advocated for more direct transit service from South County to North County through inland communities. The Purple Line project will eventually provide these connections from San Ysidro to UTC or Sorrento Mesa through City Heights, but rail projects like this can take decades to become a reality.
To provide faster service connecting these same communities sooner, we're planning Rapid 688. This bus route aims to provide fast trips using future express lanes on the I-805 freeway, while also taking riders directly to popular places.
In fall 2024, the public provided feedback about which destinations were most important to them to help narrow down possible routes and stops. We will continue to gather input from people who make trips between these areas to ensure this route helps them access vital destinations.
