The San Diego region is home to an extraordinary range of natural resources. Its unique geography—where coastal, desert, and mountainous ecosystems converge—supports rare and endangered species and their habitats.
Preserving and protecting San Diego’s natural resources is a crucial part of SANDAG’s work. We collaborate with local, state, and federal partners to protect and improve of the region's environmental health and natural resources.
Our planning, mitigation, and conservation work balances growth and development with the region’s environmental integrity. Our shoreline monitoring and management programs help us understand and respond to rising sea levels on the region’s beaches. And we work closely with our partners to protect the region’s air quality by following local, state, and federal laws and standards.
