The San Diego region's beaches provide recreational opportunities and are a vital component of the economy. In recent years, SANDAG focused on adaptation strategies to mitigate impacts to the region caused from rising sea levels.
Current shoreline management projects include Shoreline Photo Monitoring; Nearshore Habitat Inventory; Regional Shoreline Monitoring Program; Sand Compatibility and Opportunistic Use Program; Coastal Regional Sediment Management Plan; and Regional Transportation Infrastructure Sea Level Rise Assessment and Adaptation Guidance.
Past shoreline management projects included the 2001 Regional Beach Sand Project, where sand was placed on 12 local beaches, and the 2012 Regional Beach Sand Project, where sand was placed on 8 local beaches.
