Kumeyaay Corridor Comprehensive Multimodal Corridor Plan

SANDAG and Caltrans developed the Kumeyaay Corridor Comprehensive Multimodal Corridor Plan (CMCP). This CMCP outlines possible strategies to bring more travel choices to the region while improving transportation safety and connectivity in the corridor surrounding Interstate 8 (I-8). The CMCP was developed in partnership with the cities of San Diego, El Cajon, La Mesa, Lemon Grove, and Santee, as well as the County of San Diego, Port of San Diego, San Diego Airport Authority, Metropolitan Transit System, San Diego Gas & Electric, San Diego State University, tribal representatives, and the community. The completed CMCP will help us compete for local, state, and federal funds to finance transportation projects in the San Diego region.

The Kumeyaay Corridor CMCP focused on connectivity for all transportation modes in the study area including I-8 and its connections with I-5, I-805, I-15, SR 125, and SR 67, the MTS Green and Orange Line Trolleys, and multiple MTS bus routes as well as local roadways, bicycle, and pedestrian facilities.

We examined and analyzed the corridor’s performance and estimated its future usage based on the complex geographic, demographic, economic, and social characteristics of the area. We collected community and stakeholder feedback via public meetings and the project’s virtual engagement hub.
