Caltrans and SANDAG developed a Comprehensive Multimodal Corridor Plan (CMCP) for the Coast, Canyons, and Trails corridor. This CMCP outlines possible strategies to bring more travel choices to the region while improving transportation safety and connectivity. The CMCP was developed in partnership with the cities of San Diego, Santee, and El Cajon, as well as the County of San Diego and the community. The completed CMCP will help us compete for local, state, and federal funds to finance transportation projects in the San Diego region.

The Coast, Canyons, and Trails CMCP study area focused on connectivity for all transportation modes on SR 52 from La Jolla in the west to Santee in the east; SR 67 between El Cajon and Lakeside; and their connections with Interstate 5, Interstate 15, Interstate 8, Interstate 805, SR 125, and SR 163.

The Coast, Canyons, and Trails project team examined and analyzed the corridor’s performance and estimated its future usage based on the complex geographic, demographic, economic, and social characteristics of the area. The project team collected community and stakeholder feedback via public meetings and the project’s virtual engagement hub.
