The Orange Bikeway will provide a vital connection for residents to walk and bike between San Diego’s communities of North Park and City Heights. The project will run along Orange Avenue between 32nd Street and Estrella Avenue.
Project features include 2.1-miles of buffered bike lanes, median island traffic diverters, neighborhood traffic circles, curb extensions, and other traffic calming measures designed to make the streets safer and more pleasant for everyone.
The project was strategically selected and designed to maximize safety and enhance usability for everyone on the road. SANDAG engaged with local businesses, residents, schools, and community groups to solicit feedback, which was incorporated into the project during the planning, environmental, and design phases.
We expect to start construction in 2026 and complete the project within two years. SANDAG will manage construction and the City of San Diego will own and operate the bikeway upon completion.
The Orange Bikeway will connect to University Bikeway and Central Avenue Bikeway, both of which are currently in construction, and the future Howard Bikeway.
